Code \u00a7 15.2-209 reads: “Every claim cognizable against any county, city, or town for negligence shall be forever barred unless the claimant or his agent, attorney, or representative has filed a written statement of the nature of the claim, which includes the time and place at which the injury is alleged to have occurred, within six months after such cause of action accrued.” That rule can matter if a government vehicle or employee was involved.<\/p>\n

What Types of Deaths Qualify for a Wrongful Death Claim?<\/h2>\n

A death qualifies when the injury would have supported a personal injury claim had the person lived. The law covers wrongful acts, neglect or default that would have entitled the injured person to sue, as stated in Va. Code \u00a7 8.01-50<\/a>.<\/p>\n
